Seth Butler – Landscapes & Still Lifes in Oil

November 1 - November 28

RECEPTION: NOVEMBER 9th, 5-7 PM

Seth Butler has been immersed in art and image making virtually his whole life. This interest came from the influence of his mother, painter Anne Sutherland of Greenwich, NY. He fully delved into painting about ten years ago after studying some in college in the areas of fine arts and graphic design. He also attended the NYS Summer School of the Arts in high school in the summer of 1991, immersing himself in both sculpture and drawing. It was after college when the artist’s focus became painting, influenced first by still life as color studies, then fantasy and landscape genres.

Mr. Butler always sought refuge in the Art Room at Glens Falls High School, with teacher Tom Geyer. He became influenced by the artists Basquiat, Philip Guston, Picasso and other fantasy painters when studying with Professor David Miller at Skidmore College. He exhibited at the NYC Outsider Art Expo in 2009, surrounded by work of fellow artists that created work reflecting and influenced by imagination and creative expression, often informed by various mental illnesses. Mr. Butler manages with mental illness on a daily basis, and his art is a way for him to understand the world around him.
