Adirondack Folk School will host: Hanging Hardwood Splint Snowflakes with Barbara Boughton

Students will weave these striking snowflakes from hardwood maple and cherry wood splint. Several patterns may be woven, depending on the chosen splint. Students will weave one large 10” diameter snowflake, and two smaller 7” diameter snowflakes, which make a beautiful grouping hung together on a tree or in a window.
Instructor Barbara Boughton: Barbara studied art at the University of New Hampshire and photography at the University of CA, San Francisco. Upon moving back to Taborton Mountain, Sand Lake, NY, Barbara took up residence on her great-great grandparents’ homestead, and became interested in doing things the old way. Now a basket weaver and fiber artist, she teaches and shows her work as Meyers Forge Heritage Arts. Barbara’s work focuses on the relationship between form and function, combining the graceful lines of the Shakers with the complexity and fluidity of twill patterns. Weaving with reed, wood splint, bark, and other found objects, Barbara creates original designs, hand-shaping each basket, revealing its unique dimensionality. Along with doing things the old way, Barbara is also a blacksmithing student at the Adirondack Folk School.
